Oral Surgery, Oakville Dentist

Oral Surgery

While we always use the least invasive treatment possible for a given dental problem, in some cases, less invasive treatment options are simply not sufficient and oral surgery is required.

Oral surgery is used to treat defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws, as well as any traumatic injuries, or oral health conditions which require surgical repair.

Dental Implants

As part of the process to replace missing teeth and restore your smile, dentists can place a dental implant. This small titanium screw works similarly to a natural tooth root. Together with a tooth replacement such as a bridge or crown, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth. An implant can help improve the ability to chew.

Gum Grafts

During a gum graft, tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth and transplanted onto another area of the gums. A gum graft can help to cover exposed tooth roots, repair receding gums, and reduce any associated symptoms. Gum grafts can be liberating for patients suffering from severe tooth sensitivity or inevitable tooth loss.

Tooth Extractions

While our Oakville dentists opt to save a natural tooth if possible, in some cases this will simply not be practical. If a tooth is too severely damaged as a result of injury, gum disease or decay, your dentist may recommend an extraction to remove it.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. The arrival of wisdom teeth is commonly accompanied by oral hygiene complications. Your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.

Frenectomy

Frenectomies are the procedure to eliminate a frenum, a small piece of tissue that connects the cheeks, tongue or lips to the gum area. Our dentists perform frenectomies for babies, children and adults when the frenum is restricting function, colloquially known as being tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied.

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts

A bone graft is a procedure where your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, with the goal of making it strong enough to support a dental implant. Sinus lifts are a sub-type of bone graft that adds bone material to the upper back jaw, raising and increasing the amount of bone in the sinus area.
